Description
TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS WE WILL: A - USE VLA RADIO DATA TO TRACE FLARE ACCELERATED ELECTRONS IDENTIFY THE PARTICLE ACCELERATION SITE ANDDERIVE ITS SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND TEMPORAL EVOLUTION.B - QUANTIFY THE ENERGY CONTENT OF THE ACCELERATED ELECTRONS AS A FUNCTION OF TIME USING RHESSI X RAY DATA AND COMPARE WITH THE RADIO DIAGNOSTICS.C - CHARACTERIZE THE MORPHOLOGY AND DYNAMICS OF THE HEATEDPLASMA IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE PARTICLE ACCELERATION SITE USING AIA HINODE IRIS AND RHESSI DATA. D - DERIVE THE THERMAL PROPERTIES OF THE HEATED PLASMA USING DIFFERENTIAL EMISSION MEASURE AIA AND HINODE AND OR SPECTRAL RHESSI ANALYSIS METHODS. NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS BASED ON EXISTING MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMICS MHD CODES WILL BE PERFORMED TO AID THE INTERPRETATION OF THESE OBSERVATIONAL RESULTS WHENEVER DEEMED NECESSARY. OUR TEAM CONSISTS OF EXPERTS IN ALL ASPECTS OF THE PROPOSED INVESTIGATION INCLUDING SOLAR E UV AND X RAY ASTRONOMY REEVES GLESENER CHEN SOLAR RADIO ASTRONOMY CHEN AS WELL AS MHD MODELING SHEN. WE EMPHASIZE THAT WHILE THE INNOVATIVE USE OF VLA OBSERVATIONS CONSTITUTES A UNIQUE CONTRIBUTION TO OUR PROPOSED INVESTIGATIONS OUR MAIN EFFORTS WILL BE ON THE ANALYSIS OF THE NASA SPACECRAFT DATA.THE GOALS OF OUR PROPOSED WORK ARE CLOSELY ALIGNED WITH THOSE OF SDO HINODE RHESSI AND IRIS. THE STUDY ALSO DIRECTLY ADDRESSES TWO GOALS FROM THE MOST RECENT HELIOPHYSICS DECADAL SURVEY REGARDING THE ORIGINS OF THE SUNS ACTIVITY AND FUNDAMENTAL PROCESSES THAT OCCUR BOTH WITHIN THE HELIOSPHERE AND THROUGHOUT THE UNIVERSE.
