A new single-pass algorithm for extracting the mid-crack codes of multiple regions

Abstract

A new algorithm for the conversion of a binary image with multiple regions into the mid-crack codes is presented. A fast online implementation can be achieved by using tables look-up. The input binary image may contain several object regions and their mid-crack codes can be extracted at a same time in a single-pass row-by-row scan. The perimeter and area of each region can be obtained during the execution of the algorithm. The inclusion relationship among region boundaries also can be easily determined.
