Abstract
A two-dimensional classification scheme for manufacturing integration is proposed. The first dimension focuses on where in the manufacturing operations the integration is occurring, while the second dimension focuses on what type of integration is occurring. This scheme will provide system designers with: the ability to document and thus efficiently transfer and implement solution technologies or “know-how” for each class of integration; the ability to identify which integration classes are most desirable or beneficial to a specific company; and the basis for setting up a CIM implementation plan or programme.
