Abstract

This paper describes the development of a model generator that serves as the input to the vehicle speed controller. The generation of this model velocity, based on ideal vehicle kinematics which include jerk and acceleration limiting, is examined with respect to the performance criteria required for safe operation. Operating policies are developed for overtake and spacing regulation mode operation which satisfy the criteria discussed.
