Abstract

A pattern synthesis technique for wideband uniformly spaced linear or planar weighted arrays is developed. The synthesis approach is based on modeling the array as a maximum entropy filter and imposing a spatial spectrum which is chosen so as to obtain a desired radiation pattern. The weights are then adjusted to approximate the desired pattern by the actual one. The main attractions of the proposed method are: the design procedure is very simple and is given in a closed-form solution; any pattern shape (under the constraint of a finite array) can be easily designed; and the resultant pattern is guaranteed to have the best fit to the desired pattern.
