Abstract
With the increase in the technological development of online inspection for quality control and process monitoring, machine vision system can be implemented in high speed production lines. Safety, accuracy, and reliability are other advantages that adds to the application of vision systems for a 100% inspection. The proposed automated visual inspection, VSI, system consists of material handling equipment, image acquisition system, image enhancement system, decision algorithm, and control system. The study has been carried out at the university `Factory of the Future' lab. using ITRAN Vision System which provides two vision tools: field of view, FOV, and inspection. The locator tools, the reference point and the lightmeter are the FOV tools. The inspection tools for the feature sensor are `area' tools used to define complex shapes. Area tools define two-dimensional inspection regions which are painted differently using specific `brush' shapes. The accuracy of the feature recognition is ±0.00047″(0.305 mm). The application also includes the statistical analysis of the 100% inspection process and the production of x̄-chart and R-chart to process variability and to reduce documentation time.
