Abstract
The influence of pack, paste, and gas carburizing media upon the structure of the carburized layer on hypo- and hypereutectoid high-chromium (0.3 and 0.8 wt% C, 3-17 wt% Cr) steels was examined. The optimum case structure is produced by a pack mixture containing 2 wt% γ-Fe2O3; the case is practically disposed of an oxidized zone and contains a thick layer of fine-grained carbides. The influence of the carburizing temperature and duration on strength and wear resistance of chromium steels is determined.
