Abstract

A new technique to measure the mechanical properties of soft hydrogels is presented. The values obtained from this method matched well with the values obtained from rheometer tests. This technique allows us to explore the local properties dynamically, for example it can be employed for collagen gels whose properties change with temperature. Also stiffness changes by the addition of crosslinks in DNA gels can be measured on the fly. This technique can be extended to be used in the presence of cells, to observe the effect of the substrate stiffness on cell behavior.
