Abstract
An ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunnelling microscope operating at room temperature has been constructed for atomic-level characterization of magnetic systems, with which spin-polarized STM and single electron spin detection experiments can be performed. Two novelties of the design including the use of a microwave cable for carrying the tunnelling current, and a versatile slip-stick mechanism, are described with details.
