Abstract

In this paper we develop an algorithm for design for automated assembly (DFAA) of circular parts. Based on a mathematical program that considers most of the DFAA governing parameters, the algorithm comparatively selects the optimum tolerance of parts and the repeatability specification of the assembly device. The optimization scheme is subjected to functionality considerations of the assembled parts, the accuracy of equipment available in the marketplace, as well as budgetary constraints.
