Abstract
Component placement machines use various operations, such as component verification, position calibration and tooling change, to improve placement quality. This paper shows that the linear assignment based approach, introduced in our previous study for planning component placement sequences for printed circuit board assembly machines with fixed boards and fixed feeders, can easily incorporate those operations into the planning process. Two essential elements of the implementation, namely construction of cost matrix for the assignment algorithm and merge operation for generating the final placement sequence, are discussed. Also presented is the program structure of our optimal sequence planning process and the data format used in one of our implementations.
