Abstract

A natural language, plan generating, artificial intelligence environment has been established, with the translation facilities to obtain robot control character strings, for the IBM 7545 manipulator. For this application, the manipulator is presumed to be installed in support of flexible assembly operations. The communications and functions necessary for the robot to perform the basic pickup, move, and putdown operations arc developed in a cohesive system. The plan generating techniques of STRIPS arc used for the implementation of these operations.
