Abstract
A method to study chain branching reactions has been developed based on increasing the free-radical lifetime when approaching the self-ignition limit in the region of reaction mixture stability. The chain branching reaction of silane chlorination has been investigated by the method of pulsed photolysis and time-resolved LMR. The branching probability per chain unit is δ = (4.6 ± 0.6) × 10-3 (±2σ) (T = 298 ± 5 K, PCl2 = 560 Pa, PSi,H4 = 0-28 Pa).
