Abstract

The elastic analysis of two different kinds of radially heterogeneous pressure vessels is conducted in this paper. As a first kind of heterogeneous pressure vessels, a multilayered pipe with different material properties in different layers is considered. Another kind of heterogeneous pressure vessels is a thick hollow cylinder made of functionally graded material (FGM). On the basis of the finite difference method, the timedependent deformation, strain and stress distributions of both kinds of heterogeneous pipes are obtained under the different kinds of thermomechanical loadings. In this investigation, it is assumed that the pressure and temperature are symmetrical about the axis of the cylinder. Also, the material properties are considered to be independent of temperature. Results obtained from the present method are compared with the existing data.
