Abstract
Understanding the interdependence between the reaction kinetics of polymerization and fluid mechanics is needed for the design of new processing equipment. Polymerization may proceed in one of three ways: random, step addition, or chain addition. Flow is generated in one of two ways: pressure or drag. The continuous drag flow reactor is proposed to examine these two modes of momentum transfer. Viscosity is the crucial quantity in assessing the influence of reaction on flow behavior. The pressure profiles for pure pressure flow for the three reaction types are compared.
