Abstract

A gel-forming material chosen from the class of polysaccharides known as "agaroids" and a gelforming solvent water (H 2O) is used as main components of binder system for metal and or ceramic feedstock formulation for injection molding process. The gel strength of the binder plays an important role of facilitating removal of the molded body from the mold cavity and reducing the molding cycle time. The effect of several gel-strengthening additives on 1.5wt% and 2wt% agar gel were investigated. The gel-strengthening additives significantly increased the gel strength from 1192 ± 12 g/cm 2 to 1639 ± 16 g/cm 2.
