Abstract

The Ca41(d,α)K39 reaction has been used to investigate the low-lying high-spin states in K39. Conflicting spin assignments for the 5.719 MeV level in K39 of 92- or 132- have been suggested in earlier studies. A 1p-2h model reproduces both the Ca41(d,α)K39 and K39(α,α′)K39 reaction data leading to the high-spin states if the 5.719 MeV level is assumed to have a Jπ of 132-. An alternate assignment of Jπ=92- for this level is shown to produce very poor agreement with the model predictions. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Ca41(d,α), E=22 MeV, measured σ(Eα,θ), enriched target; DWBA analysis, deduced L, π; 1p-2h model, deduced J.
