He joined the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ, USA, in 1990, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering. He has over 800 publications including 12 books, 500+ journal articles(over 400 in IEEE TRANSACTIONS), and 29 book chapters. He holds 12 patents. His research interests include Petri nets, intelligent automation, the Internet of Things, big data, web services, and intelligent transportation. He is a Life Member of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, USA, where he has served as its President, in 1999. He is a Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA). He was a recipient of the Humboldt Research Award for U.S. Senior Scientists from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award, and the Norbert Wiener Award from the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society.",
