Abstract
Disassembly, the process of removing components from products at the end of their useful life is complex due to a variety of fasteners and variability in damage to the connections during use. In this paper, the fastening methods are studied to analyze the disassembly process of products. Guidelines are suggested to assist in the disassembly process to unfasten a product for maintenance, service, reuse, refurbishment, or reengineering. These guidelines are based on different classes of fasteners, their general disassembly type, and disassembly motions. General problems, which occur in disassembly with different tools are also described. This work should help in the design for disassembly and serviceability analysis of new products.
