note = "Funding Information: Roorkee, Roorkee, India, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Man- itoba, Canada where he was a Canadian Commonwealth Fellow. In 1984, he won first prize and the Martin Epstein Award in the Student Paper Competition at the Symposium of Computer Application in Medical Care in Washington, D.C., for his work on developing a three-dimensional (3D) imaging technique to detect early skin-cancer. From 1985 to 1988, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Houston. In 1988, Dr. Dhawan joined the University of Cincinnati as an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is now an Associate Professor, and the Director of the Knowledge-Based Computer Vision Laboratory. Dr. Dhawan has worked on several aspects of image processing and computer vision for biomedical applications. He has published more than 50 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and two book chapters. His current research interests include medical imaging, image reconstruction from projections, morphological image processing, knowledge-based image analysis, and neural-network-based image understanding. Dr. Dhawan is a recipient of the NIH Independent Research Support and Transition Award (I9 88). and the University of Cincinnati{\textquoteright}s Departmental Distinguished Progress in Research Excellence Award (1988-89). He is a member of IEEE, SPIE, the Biomedical Engineering Society, Eta Kappa Nu, and the Association of Computing Machinery.",
