Abstract
The remarkable "softening" of a librational mode in thallium azide (TIN3) around its 240 K phase transition has been observed by Raman spectroscopy. Anharmonic coupling between this mode and the rotational displacement parameter of the transition is proposed in terms of the theoretical model of Chihara et al.
