Abstract

The magnetic moments of the first 2+ excited states of even Ni isotopes have been measured using the large dynamic magnetic fields acting on fast ions traversing thin magnetized iron foils. The results obtained are g(Ni58,21+)=-0.06±0.13, g(Ni60,21+)=0.09±0.12, g(Ni62,21+)=+0.33±0.12, and g(Ni64,21+)=+0.45±0.12. These results agree with shell-model calculations presented here and contradict previous calculations. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Ni58,60,62,64 (S32, S32') Ni58,60,62,64 (21+) E=72 MeV, enriched targets; measured W(θ, H, ); fast ions in polarized iron. Deduced magnetic moments of 21+ states in Ni50,60,62,64.
