Mechanism of the phase transition in sodium azide

Abstract

A novel mechanism based on a theory due to Chihara et al. is proposed for the phase transition in the molecular-type crystal, sodium azide. High pressure and low temperature Raman scattering data and specific heat results are shown to be consistent with the theory.
