Abstract
A middleware computing model based on Smart Messages (SMs) for programming large ad hoc networks of embedded systems is discussed. The computing model is based on the idea that nodes cooperate in performing a distributed task in an ad hoc manner. It is found that the middleware for cooperative computing is based on the notion of smart messages. The SMs are self-routing because they are responsible for determining their own paths through the network.
