Abstract

Various aspects of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and their relationship with other information systems are discussed. MES is an integrated enterprise-wide information system which provide linkage between manufacturing and office planning. An MES accepts cohesive data from the other office-based systems and ensures that their requests and information are accurately interpreted and promptly delivered to the shop floor in a consistent manner. It is suggested that when MES is deployed in a manufacturing enterprise, the manufacturing process becomes information driven, contributing to both overall productivity and the financial viability of the manufacturing enterprise.
