Abstract

The results of a semi-automatic 3-D model-based image analysis system which is being developed to segment, register, and analyze magnetic resonance (MR) images of the brain are presented. This image analysis system uses current knowledge of neuroanatomy in the form of masks which can be updated after a successful 3-D analysis is completed and validated. Thus, the accuracy of the masks will improve as the system is used for 3-D analysis of MR scans of the brain. It is believed that by analyzing a large number of MR scans categorized in groups as defined by age, race, etc., the models can be continuously updated using the validated results of 3-D analysis.
