Abstract
The ratio of ferrous to ferric cations and the distribution of ferric cations among octahedral and tetrahedral sites in SiO//2-Na//2O-CaO glasses have been studied by Moessbauer spectroscopy. The results indicate that the ratio of ferrous to ferric cations increases with decreasing basicity, higher temperatures, and gradual replacement of Na//2O by CaO. Contrary to previous analyses, it is found that the distribution of ferric cations among octahedral and tetrahedral sites is not significantly affected by the replacement of Na//2O by CaO.
