Abstract
The view is presented that all polymer processing methods as consisting of a number of ″elementary steps″ which are, by-and-large, common to all of them. The steps are particulate solids handling, pressurization and pumping, melting, and mixing. The engineering objective in all these steps is to prepare the polymer for shaping - the main goal of processing. A detailed development of this approach is presented along with examples.
