New metric for rating in-vehicle gear whine levels

Abstract

Synthetic gear noise data is used to formulate an empirical relationship between subjective response and side-band levels. Statistics show a significant correlation between subjective response and predictions based upon the empirical metric. The metric was then applied to actual gear whine data.
