Abstract
The linear and nonlinear optical properties of Er-implanted, ordered array of nanosize silica spheres (opal), were experimentally studied using a Nd:YAG laser. White light experiments on Er-implanted opals exhibited a blue-shift compared to non-implanted regions on their respective Bragg reflections. Enhanced photoluminescence was also observed for these Er-implanted opal samples.
