Abstract

It is well established that there are characteristics differences between intraplate and interplate earthquakes. A parametric study of SDOF systems indicates that there is also consistent differences in structural response to intraplate earthquakes compared to interplate earthquakes when records from Eastern North America are used as representative of intraplate earthquakes. However, differences in structural response vanish when records from other 'stable continental interiors' are employed. Among parameters considered are: ductility demand, input energy, hysteresis energy, number of yield excursions and reversals and effective duration.
