Abstract

Black silicon (BSi) is a surface modification of crystalline silicon (c-Si). The optical properties of BSi are of significant interest in the area of photovoltaics. Passivation has been used to improve the performance characteristics of solar cells. In this study, the optical properties of passivation layers such as SiO2, Si3N4 and Al2O3, on BSi are examined in the wavelength range of 0.4 to 2.4 μm. The results of the simulations show that Si3N4, in particular, exhibits interesting behavior in its optical properties.
