Abstract
The P-wave pion-nucleus optical potential ∼ρ{variant}2(R) which derives from P-wave pion absorption on two nucleons is constructed using several πNN absorption models with pion- (and ρ{variant}-) rescattering through the 33-resonance. A local-laplacian optical-model study of π-12C scattering in the energy interval 60 MeV ≤Tπ≤ 120 MeV including this additional absorptive potential indicates sizeable but parameter-sensitive increases in the reaction cross section for low Tπ.
