Abstract
A simulation model that considers performance variables suitable for typical computer integrated manufacturing is presented. The performance variables and the input values are identified and a practical example, using a typical machining cell, is presented to illustrate the modelling and solution methodology. Experimental design techniques are used to study the effect of input values on system performance. The results are analysed and decision criteria are set for each of the performance variables. The decisions involve some trade-offs based on practical experience.
