Abstract
It is well known that capacity of code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems degrades rapidly with the increase in power control error. Capacity is also affected by small-scale fading such as Rayleigh fading and by the voice activity. In this paper we analyze the outage probability of the uplink of a CDMA system. Closed form approximations are provided for two different definitions of the outage encountered in literature. These expressions provide a simple tool to analyze system performance as function of diversity, fading, power control error, and voice activity.
