Abstract

Tolerance is an important aspect in comparing alternative designs and manufacturing processes. This paper presents a brief review of the previous work in the area of tolerance as it relates to manufacturing strategies and technologies. In addition, models for the economic selection of part tolerance that consider reworking are developed. The models can be helpful in augmenting some of the current artificial intelligence modules and expert systems to improve their performance.
