Abstract
By ignoring the tangential velocity and force field, a simplified problem is obtained for which there is a well-known solution. The tangential velocity and force field are then accounted for in an approximate manner. Simulated trajectories of a rendezvous between a vehicle starting on the lunar surface ascending to a target in a circular orbit about the moon, and a vehicle descending from a circular orbit to a target point on the lunar surface show that quasi-optimum control law performance is close to optimum.
