Abstract
The pressure dependence of Raman scattering due to the internal and external modes of vibration in paraelectric thiourea have been investigated in relation to its pressure induced phase transition. The pressure induced changes in the internal mode spectrum suggest that a clamping of the disordering molecular fluctuations coupled to changes in the S..H hydrogen bonds trigger the high pressure phase transition.
