Abstract
The wireless industry is witnessing a tremendous technological expansion and growth in the US and China. Mobile phone service in the US has gradually evolved from the introduction of Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) analog cellular services in 1984. China launched analog mobile services in 1987 and moved to digital services with the implementation of second-generation systems. Time-Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) developed by the Chinese Wireless Technology Standard Group is designed to optimize network traffic maximizing throughput. The US market has moved from a regulated telecommunications environment to a free market place where multiple service provides compete to bring cost-competitive services to the population. The Chinese government is taking a faster approach to switch over to 3G services, avoiding limits caused by older network standards.
