Abstract

This paper covers the fundamentals of computer applications to polymer processing analysis. The widespread growth of computer usage in the mechanical design industry has led to the popularly held belief that such tools exist for all engineering activities. It is hoped that this paper will help one to distinguish between the types of analysis possible with currently available CAD/CAM software packages, and that potentially effected using the full breadth of computer tools that now exist. To truly serve the polymer industry, CAD/CAM must grow to incorporate description of the complete processing history of a resin, from hopper to mold.
