Abstract

Metallographic and X-Ray spectroscopy microanalysis as well as analysis of the constitutional diagram of the Fe-B-C allow revealing peculiarities in formation of structure and phase composition under sintering of the powder composite Fe-B4C within the temperature range 1000-1100°C and establishing that decomposition of B4C in this temperature range is carried out according to the liquid-phase mechanism with formation of a mixture of Fe3(C, B) crystals and graphite with relatively high microhardness (about 10,000 MPa) in the place of initial particles of B4C.
