Abstract
Growth yield of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) within orderly porous templates were investigated, in order to optimize fabrication of arrayed nanotube-ceramic composites. Monodisperse silica were synthesized by hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in a mixture of ammonium hydroxide, water and ethanol and self assembled on quartz substrates. In order to avoid salt-induced aggregation and to improve quality of the opal template, silica opal films were deposited, and then immersed into ethanol solution of cobalt nitrate. The results showed that curvature limited growth high quality tubes tend to grow straight and large radius of curvature prohibits the growth.
