Abstract
The need to describe product data, the manufacturing system, and the other CIM components and processes in a concise, multi-layered, structured, and intelligible way is obvious. This article provides a general solution for designing FMS within a CIM architecture. It describes and illustrates a set of generic models and tools based on static (IDEFO) and dynamic modelling techniques (discrete event simulation and solid modelling).
