Abstract

Detailed measurements of luminescence lines from optically pumped germanium lead to the determination of the temperature variation of the carrier density and binding energy of an electron-hole liquid. A metallic model of this liquid provides a quantitative description of the data and allows a determination of the compressibility of the liquid.
