Abstract

This paper addresses the burstification interval scaling problem when the timer-based burstification mechanisms, including the periodic and the non-periodic alternatives, are employed. We investigate the impact of the burstification interval on the burst traffic characteristics in terms of the data burst inter-arrival time and the data burst length, respectively. An analytical model is developed to evaluate the burst delay at the edge node of the OBS-enabled WDM backbone. Numerical and simulation results have justified our analysis.
