Abstract
This chapter examines how management textbooks used in American universities have portrayed Frederick Winslow Taylor’s scientific management at different points in the twentieth century. The aim is to show major shifts in the way academic management theorists have interpreted scientific management during this period and to suggest some reasons behind the changes.
