Abstract
We have made the first calculation of the retarded van der Waals potential for two identical, neutral atoms near a perfectly conducting plane. As the distance between the atoms and the plane becomes large, compared to atomic dimensions, our results reduce to the Casimir-Polder potential. We have shown that one of the effects determined by the boundary is either an attractive or a repulsive force between the atoms and the plane.
