Abstract

We study the passage of a flow field, which may be rotational and possibly contain a vortex filament or vortex sheet or both, through a smooth shock front (surface) of finite strength in three-dimensional space. In particular, simple equations are derived for the changes in entropy gradients and jumps in vorticity across a shock, which can be used for improving and benchmarking error estimates of numerical schemes.
